Artist Statement

The world needs love but with a better understanding of its true meaning. The trouble with love these days is everyone wants the flower first without nurturing stages of its growth. In a society where love is portrayed as self-absorbed instead of self-less and even expressed as a product, my inspiration is to create artwork with the understanding that love can be found in the simplest of things, such as taking a walk with nature. A journal with words written in 1930 by my great-great grandma reads, "Some people never take a walk. There is no better way of getting a change in our thoughts and getting out of the rut of discontent or at least, sluggishness. Sunshine and fresh air make us well and happy." Taking a walk, love can be felt, as the sun casts out shadows of darkness and awakens the natural beauty of our world. Nature is not a product, but a lesson of love, patience, balance, and creativity. Through the medium of charcoal my landscape drawings invite the viewer to fall in love with the natural world around us. To feel the black and white contrast captured with charcoal and be inspired with an emotion crafted by the landscape.
